APP second gen
Apple released the airpods pro (2nd Gen) in September 2022, nearly three years after the original airpods pro were announced. The airpods pro are the most expensive earbuds in Apple’s lineup, and the only ones to offer ear tips for a customized fit.
The original airpods pro came with active noise cancelation and a transparency mode that set them apart from standard AirPods. The airpods pro 2 offer the same features, while adding a host of other improvements to the mix. At $249, airpods pro (2nd Gen) are Apple’s best earbuds, and here are some reasons why.
7. The Best Sounding AirPods Ever
Apple’s latest airpods pro come with the new H2 chip, a low-distortion driver, and a custom amplifier. In comparison to the original airpods pro, the new model offers much better sound. The earphones offer an Adaptive EQ that constantly monitors the audio and makes real-time changes to deliver the best possible sound signature.
Although the airpods pro 2 can’t stream lossless audio tracks, they support AAC LC3 over Bluetooth 5.3, which offers 16-bit 48 kilohertz bit rates. The audio feels more elaborate and crisp, especially at low frequencies that produce bass. Highs and mid-range frequencies feel sharp and clear on the airpods pro 2.
6. Personalized Spatial Audio
With the airpods pro 2, Apple released Personalized Spatial Audio. Although the first-generation airpods pro also support Spatial Audio, the new earbuds can personalize the Spatial Audio profile based on the shape and size of users’ ears.
With Personalized Spatial Audio, everything the user listens to feels wider and clearer. For example, the sound of instruments in an audio track becomes more evident when users create their personal audio profiles using the iPhone’s TrueDepth camera.
5. Improved Battery Life
Users complained about poor battery life with the first-gen airpods pro, especially when features like Spatial Audio and Active Noise Cancelation were enabled. However, the airpods pro 2 change that for good. Apple claims that the new earphones can last up to six hours with ANC, up from the 4.5 hours offered by their predecessor. In day-to-day usage, the airpods pro (2nd Gen) can last up to 5.5 hours with ANC.
Apple has also improved the battery capacity of the earbuds’ charging case, which can now provide up to 30 hours of listening time on a single charge and up to one hour with just five minutes of charging. Additionally, the MagSafe charging case can be charged using the Apple Watch’s wireless charger.
4. On-Stem Volume Controls
Controlling volume on the airpods pro (2nd Gen) is easier than ever. The earbuds feature a new touch sensor (visible as an indentation on the stem) for adjusting loudness. All users have to do is swipe up on the touch sensor to increase and swipe down to decrease the volume.
The earbuds also feature a Force Sensor, enabling users to play/pause music tracks, videos, and answer/reject calls. Users can also switch between the noise cancelation modes on the AirPods by pressing and holding the stem. The touch and force controls reduce the need to control the airpods pro from the iPhone, resulting in a better hands-free experience.
3. Charging Case With Precision Finding
One of the best features of the iPhone, i.e., Precision Finding, has made its way to the new airpods pro. All the iPhones from the iPhone 11 series onwards come with a U1 chip that enables precise location tracking through the Find My app. This functionality is also now available for the airpods pro (2nd Gen), which now feature a U1 chip inside the charging case.
If users misplace their airpods pro 2, they can open the Find My app and follow the on-screen directions that lead to the charging case, just like the app would in case of an AirTag. In addition, the new charging case also features a speaker that emits sound, making it easier to locate.
2. Improved Active Noise Cancelation
Those working or studying in noisy environments will love the new noise cancelation feature. Apple claims that the earphones can cut out two times more sound than their predecessors, possibly due to the combination of passive and active noise cancelation on the AirPods. When users wear the airpods pro, the silicon ear tips create an air seal that reduces the amount of sound entering users’ ears.
However, the AirPods’ active noise cancelation takes it to another level. The airpods pro (2nd Gen) can easily cut out the sounds of a fan, air conditioner, or the distant chatter one hears in public places. Whether users want to focus on a book or enjoy their favorite music, the active noise cancelation on the earbuds is fantastic.
1. Adaptive Transparency Mode Reduces Background Sound
The airpods pro 2 feature an Adaptive Transparency mode can tone down loud noises and sounds. Thanks to the H2 chip, the AirPods can adjust the intensity of loud noises 48,000 times per second and relay it to users’ ears in real time.
The earbuds have also been programmed to enhance vocals so that users can hear what the other person is saying even while wearing the AirPods. This is perhaps the most underrated feature of airpods pro (2), and just one of the many reasons that make them a great buy, particularly for iPhone users.
